John H. Tinney

As one of the founding members of The Tinney Law Firm, John has over 34 years of courtroom experience. Following his 1969 graduation from the West Virginia University College of Law, John worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Sidney L. Christie, United States District Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia. After his clerkship, John entered into private practice and developed an extensive trial practice.

John has tried to verdict over 100 cases, including many that have garnered national attention. Among these victories has been the successful defense of the national accounting firm Ernst & Young in regard to the collapse of Blue Cross Blue Shield of WV and the exposure of a fraudulent government expert in a highly-publicized Superfund case.

John has also been active in his service to the profession. He was on the State Bar Board of Governors for several years and was the President of the West Virginia State Bar for 2001-2002. He presently serves on the Development Committee of the West Virginia University College of Law. However, the greatest thrill in his legal career is that both his sons, Jack and Jim, have followed him into the profession.
